A BRIEF HISTORY....

City Church St Albans was founded by a small group of people from Watford Elim Church late in the 1970's. Like many young churches, we met in rented rooms and halls as we gathered people together, sharing the gospel through the power of the Holy Spirit. People from many  backgrounds and experiences joined in those early days as we began to grow in numbers and our presence in the city increased. In the mid 80's we changed our name to City Church to reflect our vision to be a church for the city "set on a hill" that cannot be hidden.

From the 1980's and through the 90's we saw a period of growth both in size, influence, and blessing, being especially impacted by a move of the Holy Spirit that started and flowed from Toronto, Canada. It was during this time that we held a series of annual conferences at the Alban Arena that were significant in both our history and that of the locality and region.

Week by week, we continued to meet in rented halls, spending many years meeting at St Albans City College near the centre of St Albans, albeit with a growing frustration of being in rented accommodation. So, it was with great joy that in 2004 we were able to buy and move to our own home — Unity Works. Here God has continued to develop His plans for us leading s forward into the present day and with growing excitement about what is to come as we welcome our new Pastor and his family to St Albans and City Church.
